Dianabol Basics

A rapidly-acting anabolic androgenic steroid, Dianabol is one of the most important anabolic steroids of all time. Dianabol serves as the go-to steroid of choice among gym enthusiasts, bodybuilders and competitive strength athletes the world over. It is one of the most potent anabolic steroids around. While its practical value in the gym can’t be questioned, what truly makes it special is its place in the history of anabolic steroids. Dianabol was one of the first anabolic steroids developed, and was what inspired the anabolic race in performance circles. Unique to many other anabolic steroids, Dbol, as it is now known, was made for the sole purpose of performance enhancement, and that purpose has been achieved with success, to put it mildly.

The History of Dianabol:

Dianabol evolved from the research of German chemists Adolf Butenandt and Leopold Ruzicka. In 1931, Butenandt first isolated and extracted the hormone androstenone from urine. Shortly after that, Ruzicka discovered the means to synthesize testosterone. Their research was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1939, and was heralded the world over, especially in the Soviet Union.

For the next two decades, Soviet athletes would dominate the Olympic Games, crushing their competition. The frustration level was especially high among the US athletes. In the 1950’s, this frustration spilled over into research, as Ciba Pharmaceuticals began to experiment with the hormone methandostenolone. By 1960, this hormone was being given to the US Olympic team, administered by Dr. John Ziegler, the team physician at the time. It was given the trade name of Dianabol to make it easier to pronounce. Dr. Ziegler was originally put in charge by Ciba to design the Methandrostenolone hormone (Dianabol). Under Ziegler’s management, Ciba manufactured and distributed the hormone. Even though Ziegler has been credited with Dianabol’s conception, the U.S. patent for the drug shows a list of different scientists actually credited with its creation.

Although it is odd that Ziegler’s name is absent for the patent application and a multi-national pharmaceutical company would hire an outside source to create a new anabolic, it’s for certain that it was Ziegler who managed the administration of Dianabol to US Olympic athletes and who lobbied for its creation the hardest. Even if he didn’t actually invent Dianabol, we know Dr. Ziegler held a crucial position in its entire research & development. Without Dr. John Ziegler, Dianabol simply would not exist.

Dianabol was the key in swinging athletic dominance back to the U.S. Olympic Team. By 1970, thanks to Dr.Ziegler’s administration of Dianabol, U.S. athletes became a dominant force in sports again. Though many different steroids came and went during the 60s and 70s, Dianabol has stood the test of time, and is considered one of the most effective and well-tolerated anabolic steroids of all time.

Understanding Dianabol:

Dianabol is the most used and best-known trade name for the anabolic steroid Methandrostenolone, a steroid that possesses considerably strong anabolic properties and an overall mild androgenic rating. Despite the rather low androgenic rating, its androgenic proprieties are actually stronger then given credit for. Dianabol has an anabolic rating of 210 and an androgenic rating of 60. The standard against which all anabolic steroids are rated is pure Testosterone, which carries a rating of 100/100 respectively. So you can clearly see the androgenic rating of 60 is not that far off from Testosterone perfect score of 100.

An incredible strength increaser and mass-builder, Dbol is a fantastic steroid for off-season bulking. It works quickly and positively with the body’s androgen receptors, dramatically improving glycogenolysis and protein synthesis. Dianabol also greatly increases nitrogen retention in lean muscle, but its real effectiveness is still in its ability to spur glycogenolysis and protein synthesis, and the more efficient use of proteins and carbohydrates.

Mostly found in the form of an oral tablet, Dbol belongs to the C-17 alpha alkylated (C17-aa) family, and is actually very toxic in nature. Since the steroid is altered at the 17th carbon position (thus the c17-aa distinction), it can survive the first pass through the human liver. Regrettably, this particular structural change makes Dianabol one of the more hepatoxic steroids on the market, but certainly not the worst in this regard. For the basis of comparison, Dbol is nowhere nearly as hepatoxic (liver-damaging) as excessive alcohol or some OTC medications. However, daily Dianabol supplementation can increase your liver enzyme levels significantly. One should be very careful not to combine hepatoxic habits while on Dbol—do not drink or use certain OTC pain-killers that promote liver damage. Once you’re done with your Dbol cycle, your liver should bounce back very quickly, assuming you’re in otherwise good health.
